Despite the brilliance of ex-United star Ronaldo and the breakthrough first season Bale experienced, Di Maria shone and was the key man as Real won their tenth Champions League final in May.
Di Maria scored 11 goals and amassed an incredible 26 assists but was used a financial sacrifice so Madrid could sign James Rodriguez, leaving the Argentina to seal a £59.7m move to Old Trafford.
The Argentina international scored three goals in his first four games at Old Trafford and despite a dip in form, came back to life against Burnley on Wednesday.
Speaking about Di Maria, who turned 27 today, Young said, “Angel was a fantastic signing.”
“Real Madrid have other top players in their team, like Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, but he was the one who stood out for me in that team last season.
“When you add quality to a squad that already has quality it can only help us.
“We saw in the first couple of days in training just how good a player Angel is and what we can expect from him. He was definitely a great signing for us.”
With United currently sitting third in the league but not playing convincingly, fans will hope Di Maria can re-find the form he showed immediately after joining United in the summer.
