Luke Shaw is keen to start providing more assists and scoring more goals for Manchester United in his role as an attacking full-back.
The 19-year-old is no stranger to attacking from the left-back role as he showed so impressively last year with Southampton and it is something he is eager to bring for Man United.
It hasn’t quite come to fruition yet for Shaw but it’s good to hear his natural attacking tendencies haven’t diminished as consequence.
“Of course, that’s something that we want,” Shaw told MUTV when asked about United’s defenders providing more direct goal threat.
“As attacking full-backs we want to be getting in the box and helping out the team with assists and also scoring.
“That’s definitely a part of my game that I am trying to push with goals and hopefully I can get some in the near future.”
Attacking full-backs are a necessity in modern day football and especially in the formations which van Gaal has been experimenting with this season using two wing-backs.
Shaw is still finding his feet at Man United thanks to his injuries but it’s great to hear his ambition is to make sure he attacks from the back, something that always helps United to play with natural width.
