Ashley Young: Anderson and Darren Fletcher will be missed at Manchester United

Ashley Young says Darren Fletcher and Anderson will be missed at Manchester United because they were big characters in the dressing room.

Fletcher joined West Bromwich Albion in a deadline day move while Anderson joined Brazilian side Internacional after being released by Man United.

The performance levels of both players deteriorated towards the end of their careers at Old Trafford but they remain popular figures in the dressing room and Young says they will be missed.

Speaking about the pair, Young said: “They were two big characters in the dressing room who were always messing around and pulling pranks! Everyone will miss them but we’ll keep in contact. They’re fantastic players and hopefully they’ll have great futures.”

Despite their popularity Fletcher and Anderson both struggled towards the end of their time at United and it was the right time for them both to leave.

Fletcher recovered from a serious illness to make an emotional comeback for the club in 2013 but his performances this season were far below the required level.

Anderson was often the butt of jokes at United following some increasingly mediocre displays and his departure came as a relief to fans.

Fletcher and Anderson were well liked by United’s players however and a number of them wished the duo well at their new clubs.
