Louis van Gaal: Victor Valdes will not play in Manchester United’s FA Cup run

Louis van Gaal has stated David de Gea will continue in goal during Manchester United’s FA Cup run despite the fact that Victor Valdes is yet to make his first team debut at the club.

De Gea was beaten in Man United’s fifth round tie at Preston North End on Monday night when Scott Laird opened the scoring but the Spaniard generally did well when called upon.

Goals from Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and a penalty from Wayne Rooney eventually sealed a 3-1 win for United and their progression into the quarter-finals of the competition.

Fans have called for the experienced Valdes to start in the Cup run in order to give De Gea a rest but van Gaal says the 24-year-old will continue as no.1.

Valdes signed for the club in January amid a buzz of excitement but his biggest contribution at United so far has been a rousing team talk prior to an U21s clash against Liverpool last month.

It appears that only an injury to de Gea will see Valdes play in the first team this season.
