Dietmarr Hamann urges Manchester United to sign Robert Lewandowski

Sky Sports panelist Dietmar Hamann thinks Robert Lewandowski is a player who could really strengthen Manchester United.

Lewandowski hasn’t been first-choice under Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich this season and had to wait until the 75th minute before being brought on by Pep Guardiola in their Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk this week.

The Polish striker was strongly linked with Man United for a long time before he joined Bayern Munich from rivals Borussia Dortmund but with Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie misfiring, Hamann believes Lewandowski is the perfect player to rejuvenate United’s attack.

“If you look at Manchester United, I think they could do with a Lewandowski,” Hamann told Sky Sports.

“At the moment United, Liverpool and even Arsenal… Lewandowski is tailor-made for them.

“He came to Bayern Munich on a free last year but if there was an opportunity to get him out I’d break the bank for him because I think he’s the best No 9 in the world.”

Hamann also raised concerns about Lewandowski’s future at Bayern Munich under Guardiola: “It’s a big question mark. There’s a question mark about the manager. There are still no assurances that he will be there, even though he’s got a contract.

“I think the same goes for Lewandowski because the way the team plays under Guardiola I don’t think it suits him.

“He was tailor-made for Dortmund and I think he’s tailor-made for two or three English teams where he can play on the counter attack on big pitches where he can run in behind.

Before he joined Bayern on a free, Man United would have been very interested in Lewandowski and Falcao’s faltering form means that if no deal is agreed to bring the Colombian to Old Trafford, van Gaal would almost certainly be looking for a replacement and somebody of Lewandowski’s calibre would be high atop his list.

For a big man, Lewandowski has a great touch and his eye for goal is second to none, much like Falcao was back in his pre-injury pomp.

Whether Man United would consider making a move for Lewandowski all depends on Falcao’s future but it did happen, there’d certainly be a big fee involved.
