Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi flattered with Manchester United interest

Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi admits he is honoured to have been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Icardi joined the Nerazzuri in 2013 and has impressed in Serie A having scored 27 goals in 55 appearances for the club.

Gianluca di Marzio reports that Man United watched Icardi alongside Paulo Dybala during a game between Inter Milan and Palermo earlier this month. Icardi was in fantastic form and scored a brace so would have impressed United’s scouts.

The Argentine says he is flattered with interest from United and other Premier League clubs but that his immediate focus is on Inter.

Speaking about his future, Icardi said: ”I am not interested in rumours, what counts is winning with Inter. But if the ones about United, Chelsea and Liverpool (are true) then I’d be honoured, because they are big clubs, but I am already in a great team where I can win something important.

“I would certainly like to play in the Champions League. It is what every player wants and it would give me a boost towards wearing the shirt of Argentina.”

With Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie misfiring at Old Trafford it makes sense for United to keep their options open when it comes to summer transfers.

At 21, Icardi would inject some more youth into United’s attack alongside James Wilson should he be brought to the club next season.
