Jamie Carragher delighted with Ander Herrera goal against Preston

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher showed his true colours on Monday night when he appeared to celebrate Ander Herrera’s goal for Manchester United against Preston North End.

Scott Laird had put Preston 1-0 up in the FA Cup fifth round tie at Deepdale before Herrera fired in an equaliser.

Having played 737 times for United’s fierce rivals, one might have thought that Carragher would be disappointed with the strike.

But the 37-year-old instead took to social media to celebrate the goal:

It was a funny moment during the game but a glance at Carragher’s previous tweets reveals why he was actually happy with the equaliser.

Carragher would prefer United to face Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Cup rather than Preston because he thinks Arsene Wenger’s side are more likely to eventually knock Liverpool out of the competition:

For Carragher to write United off is odd given the club trounced Liverpool 3-0 at Old Trafford earlier this season.

Regardless, it was a funny situation for United fans given the huge rivalry between the two clubs.
