Manchester United have been linked with a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Kyle Walker by The Mirror.
The 24-year-old has been back in action with Tottenham having spent a substantial period on the sidelines with a serious injury and played well on his return, so much so that Louis van Gaal is considering signing him.
With Rafael’s proneness to injuries, Man United are simply unable to rely on him any more and although Antonio Valencia has done well in a makeshift right-back role, he is not good enough to play there in the long-term.
As for Paddy McNair, he has only played at right-back a couple of times in his career so can’t be considered a long-term option at this point.
Therefore, Louis van Gaal is expected to sign a right-back in the summer and Walker is the latest to have been linked with a move. The Mirror goes on to state ‘discreet enquiries’ had already been made at White Hart Lane to find out Tottenham’s stance on his future.
Man United are almost certainly going to be getting a new right-back but Walker is not somebody who they should be looking at.
He is blisteringly fast but is very much a Glen Johnson type defender whose focus in on attacking rather than defending, a trait which wouldn’t float too well with van Gaal who demands balance in his players.
Walker won’t be the last right-back to be linked with United and as the summer draws nearer more and more players will have their name thrown in the hat.
