Based on WhoScored’s algorithm, Di Maria is the highest performing midfielder with an average rating of 8.04 but although he certainly started off his Manchester United career with blistering form, he’s been quite muted as of late.
As for Fellaini, his important influence in recent matches has more been from a striker or attacking midfield role rather than a traditional central midfielder.
Thirdly, Herrera’s inclusion comes as a surprise simply because of how little he has played but it is a testament to his performances that he’s anywhere near the list.
The Spaniard is a player who Man United fans have really grown fond because of how well he always plays. Simply put, he’s the most balanced midfielder United currently have and is the fifth best in the league apparently.
Given how well they have played this season, the omission by WhoScored of the likes of Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas comes as a surprise, as does Di Maria’s name atop the list given how cold his form has been in 2015.
