Louis van Gaal pleased with Manchester United’s tactical options

Louis van Gaal believes Manchester United’s ability to change systems during a game will be an asset to them as they bid to qualify for the Champions League this season.

Man United have lined up in a 4-4-2 diamond formation in recent weeks but van Gaal has often changed it to a flat 4-4-2 towards the end of the game.

It has given the team much more flexibility going forward, which was a problem when van Gaal used a 3-5-2 formation at the start of the campaign.

The Dutchman is pleased the team can adapt to certain situations and that they have been able to grind out results.

Speaking about United’s tactics, van Gaal said: ”I have seen when we change the system during the game that we always surprise our opponent and that’s why it’s also a good thing of our team, that we can change the system during matches.

“Of course, it is not always that we improve our game but mostly we have improved and won the match, so that’s important.”

Van Gaal seems to have found the right balance for United when it comes to going forward while staying solid at the back.

The team has looked far more threatening recently but also boast one of the best defensive records in the Premier League having conceded just 24 goals in the competition this season.
