Manchester United could be without Robin van Persie for up to six weeks – report

Robin van Persie’s ankle injury is worse than first feared and the Manchester United striker could be out of action for four to six weeks.

Reports earlier this week suggested van Persie could be out for up to three weeks after he injured himself against Swansea City last weekend but it looks like he may now be out for longer.

It is a blow for Louis van Gaal given James Wilson also suffered an injury while playing for the U21s against Sunderland on Monday night.

Some fans have suggested that van Persie’s injury may be a blessing in disguise for Man United however as he was largely anonymous against the Swans.

Van Persie’s injury presents a massive chance for Radamel Falcao, who was dropped to the bench for the Swansea game.

The Colombian has failed to deliver for United since joining on loan from Monaco last summer and has only scored four goals in 19 appearances for the club. Van Persie’s absence means Falcao could get a chance to rediscover his form with an extended run in the team. United have struggled to score goals in recent weeks and fans will be hoping Falcao can get a run going starting with Sunderland on Saturday.
