Pictures: Man United 2-0 Sunderland – Rooney double seals vital three points

Manchester United returned to winning ways with a comfortable second half performance against a 10-man Sunderland.

A frustrating first half saw United create a couple of opportunities, but a touch of magic from Radamel Falcao drew a foul from John O’Shea, a penalty for United and a red card for the visitors.

Bizarrely, referee Roger East chose to send off Wes Brown but it made no difference to Wayne Rooney who stepped up to slam home his first league goal of 2015, and his second soon followed.

United began to use their width and Adnan Januzaj was particularly impressive, his shot was headed home by Rooney late on, the United captain becoming the first player to score at least 10 goals in 11 consecutive seasons.
