Mauro Icardi is set to snub a transfer to Manchester United by signing a contract extension with current club Inter Milan.

Reports from the Mirror suggested Man United were interested in bringing Icardi to Old Trafford in the summer but Inter director Piero Aid has now revealed the striker is instead close to signing a contract extension at the club.

Aid said talks are ongoing with Icardi’s agent Abian Morano but Inter believe they will tie up a deal for Icardi’s future early next week.

Speaking about Icardi, Aid said: “I was with his [Icardi’s] agent until a few minutes ago, we’re coming close to an agreement.”

“Icardi will remain with us for much longer.

“Tomorrow we will have another meeting, during which will a draft contract will be signed, before official deal, that will happen very soon.”

Along with Icardi, United are interested in bringing Palermo’s Paulo Dybala to England. Icardi has earned the interest by having a fine season in Serie A having scored 14 goals in 21 appearances this term.

United’s scouts have already watched the duo in a game between the two sides last month. Icardi impressed during the clash and scored a brace as Inter ran out 3-0 winners.

With Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie continuing to struggle this season, Icardi could provide a breath of fresh air when it comes to United’s attack.
