Nathaniel Clyne is set for crunch talks with Southampton over the possibility of signing a new contract for the club, reports The Telegraph.
Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed he expected to hold talks with the 23-year-old and his representatives early in March after the Premier League side return from a trip to Switzerland where they will relax ahead of the run-in.
“The contact is between Les Reed [Southampton’s executive director] and the agent and Clyne, but I think after Wednesday.
“It’s a good time to talk about that – of course, we like to know what his decision is about the future,” said Koeman.
“I hope [Coleman stays at Newcastle] but I can understand if there is any interest from other clubs. We don’t have really a serious bid. It’s not I think the most difficult position.
“Normally the left-back position is more difficult to find good players. But, even the right full-back position, there are not a lot who have played on the level as Clyne has been doing this season.”
Koeman hopes Clyne will stay at Southampton after the summer but as they showed last year, every player of theirs is available for the right price and that includes Clyne.
