Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed Jack Wilshere will miss Monday’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with Manchester United.
The midfielder has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Man United back in November.
Wilshere needed to go under the knife following the injury and now faces a further spell on the sidelines after undergoing a second operation last week.
Wenger revealed Wilshere will definitely not recover in time for the Cup tie and says he does not know when he will be back to full fitness.
Speaking about Wilshere, Wenger said: “It takes some time to heal the wound after the surgery. It will take his a few days.
“I don’t set any dates, but what is for sure is that for Man United he will not be available.”
The news is a boost for United ahead of the clash but Louis van Gaal’s side will have plenty of other players to think about when they take on the Gunners.
Santi Cazorla, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are all in good form and Arsenal have been grinding out results in the race for Champions League qualification. They did lose 3-1 to Monaco in the competition last week but United will know they’ll need to be on top form in order to reach the semi-finals of the Cup.
