Manchester United v Arsenal: Team line-ups – Rafael on the bench

by Ben Topliss

United XI v Arsenal: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw, Blind, Herrera, Di Maria, Fellaini, Young, Rooney

Subs: Valdes, Rafael, Jones, Carrick, Januzaj, Mata, Falcao

Manchester United have named a strong team to face Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-final meeting between the two sides tonight but there is no room in the side for Radamel Falcao or Michael Carrick.

The duo take a place on the substitute’s bench alongside Rafael, who had spent a few months languishing in Man United’s U21s side.

On the pitch, an attacking trio of Ashley Young, Angel di Maria and Marouane Fellaini line up behind Wayne Rooney in what looks like a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Luke Shaw is deemed fit enough to start the match and replaces Jonny Evans at the back, which means Daley Blind and Ander Herrera will operate in midfield.

Victor Valdes has again been forced to wait for his first-team debut with David de Gea preferred in goal while Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo pair up at the heart of defence. Juan Mata has also been left out again and has to settle for a place on the bench.
