Man United monitoring Aymeric Laporte – report

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte.

The 20-year-old is very young in age but having already made 70 appearances for Athletic Bilbao in La Liga, he has experience under his belt as well.

Laporte was linked with a move to Man United back in January and now thanks to comments from Mark Ogden, the rumours have resurfaced.

Speaking about defensive reinforcements this year, The Telegraph‘s Mark Ogden said: “United have regularly scouted the Southampton and England full-back Nathaniel Clyne, with the 23-year-old’s progress over the past 18 months making him a target.

“They have also monitored the Athletic Bilbao centre-half Aymeric Laporte, the 20-year-old France Under-21 international.

“Van Gaal, who always has a ball-playing centre-half in his sides, remains a confirmed admirer of Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels who would fit this bill.”

Laporte is going to become a great player in the fullness of time both domestically and internationally, the latter of which because he is growing up in a golden generation of French youngsters including Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane.

As for Laporte, if United want to sign him they will have to cough up his full £32m release clause as they found out the hard way with Ander Herrera that Bilbao are not easy to deal with.
