The Colombian might have grumbled about the situation but the truth is he has done little to warrant a regular place in the first-team this year.

Of course, Falcao isn’t alone as the likes of Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Rafael have all had to play with the U21s as well this season.

Having scored just four goals since his arrival on loan from Monaco, van Gaal appears to have ran out of patience with Falcao’s laboured and predictable performances.

It is a desperately sad situation for Falcao, who was once considered one of the best strikers in the world at Atletico Madrid and Porto. Unfortunately for the 29-year-old he doesn’t seem to have recovered properly from a serious knee injury suffered last season while playing for Monaco. His United career is unlikely to go anywhere and all signs are pointing to his summer exit.
