Roy Keane glad Manchester United didn’t sign Steven Gerrard

Roy Keane might not be everybody’s cup of tea but you can’t ever accuse him of biting his tongue.

The Irishman isn’t afraid to speak his mind and at a charity fundraiser at Waterford United last night alongside Ireland manager Martin O’Neill, Keane couldn’t resist a little dig at the departing Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

When asked if the United missed a trick by not signing the departing Liverpool captain, Keane said: “No, we want to try win something.”

Could you even imagine entertaining the idea of Gerrard in a United kit? No, neither can we nor Keane, and too right.

Keane might have had his fallings out with Sir Alex Ferguson but he is still a big Man United fan and his use of ‘we’ is indicative of that. He’s regularly spotted at Old Trafford with his son watching on from the stands.

Right now, United could really do with having a Keane in his pomp back in the starting XI. We’ve missed that leader type figure, somebody who can take the game by the scruff of its neck, chew it up, spit it out and come out on the other side with three points.
