Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has hailed his players after they bounced back from defeat in the FA Cup by beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 on Sunday.

Goals from Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney sealed a crucial three points for United in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

The result came in the same week as United’s Cup exit at the hands of Arsenal thanks to a late Danny Welbeck winner.

Van Gaal was delighted with the reaction of his side and said he has been impressed with the attitude of his players.

Speaking about the result, van Gaal said: ”This was a massive game after losing to Arsenal. Besides the first five minutes we had control of the match, scored beautiful goals and didn’t give much away.

“Arsenal was a big blow but I had a very good feeling when the players showed at training the same spirit as before. I’ve had 25 years as a manager and I’ve seen that players after a defeat are not always like that.”

It was not only a fantastic result for United but an equally impressive performance too.

Playing arguably their best football of the season, Spurs were blown away during a devastating first half display from United in particular. By the time Rooney scored the team’s third with 34 minutes played, the game was effectively over as a contest. It was a brilliant performance from United and one they can be proud of.
