Manchester United scout Hoffenheim’s Roberto Firmino – report

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United are lining up a move for Hoffenheim’s highly rated attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino after sending scouts to watch him play against Hamburg last week.

According to Bild, Man United scout Peter Braund watched on as Firmino played a starring role in Hoffenheim’s 3-0 victory.

The Brazilian, who is also interesting Liverpool, has caught the eye in the Bundesliga this term having scored eight goals.

His good form has alerted United to his quality and reports suggest they sent Braund to take a closer look at him at the Rhein-Neckar Arena on Saturday.

Although Firmino’s contract runs out in 2017, the 23-year-old has been told he can leave Hoffenheim if a big offer comes in for him.

United have plenty of options in attacking midfield so it is odd to see the club linked with Firmino.

Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera and Wayne Rooney can all play there while the likes of Angel di Maria, Ashley Young and Adnan Januzaj can occupy the wings.

However, Louis van Gaal has been far from predictable during his time at United, so who he will go for in the upcoming transfer windows is anybody’s guess.
