Scotland U21s boss Danny Lennon has thanked Darren Fletcher after he alerted him to the quality of Manchester United youngster Donald Love.
Lennon called Love up to his first squad on Monday on the recommendation of Fletcher, who left Man United in January to join West Bromwich Albion.
Rochdale-born love has already lined up for Scotland at U17 and U19 level but is yet to make a first-team appearance for United.
Lennon says he has no doubts over Love’s ability and is happy to help him progress his career.
Speaking about Fletcher’s involvement, Lennon said: ”I welcomed that call as I did other calls. I went to see the player and spoke to him on several occasions.
“You don’t play for a big club like Manchester United unless you have ability, so we are delighted to have Donald along.
“He has been involved at a younger age and it is another milestone in his career.
“He can play a couple of positions, which is always handy. He is a welcome addition.”
Fletcher became a fans’ favourite at Old Trafford during his long career at United and this latest news will only add to his reputation at the club.
As for Love, it is a big opportunity for him to impress. Fletcher’s endorsement carries a lot of weight and the youngster will undoubtedly draw confidence from it as he continues his development.
