Blind usually plays in midfield for Man United but filled in at left-back against Spurs due to Luke Shaw’s injury.
The 25-year-old produced a superb performance during the game, putting in a number of dangerous crosses whilst also protecting United’s left flank.
Irwin was impressed with Blind and said he deserves to remain in the starting XI against Liverpool on Sunday.
Speaking about Blind, Irwin said: “Daley’s a good, honest pro. He can play at centre-half if you need him, left-back if you need him, and obviously he’s played mostly in midfield for us this season. I think he’s been a really good signing.
“He’s a player who reads situations very, very well, I thought he played extremely well on Sunday [against Spurs]. It’ll be interesting to see the team the manager picks against Liverpool, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he picks the same 11 players, because they played so well. That’s the manager’s decision and he’s got one or two back from suspension and injury, but I thought the team played very well on Sunday.”
Although United signed the likes of Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria last summer, Blind has been one of the club’s most consistent players this term.
Blind brings a calmness to United’s midfield and has linked up well with the likes of Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera. His versatility has also proved vital for United, as the game against Spurs shows. With Shaw in and out the team through injury, it would be no surprise to see Blind in the starting XI at Anfield.
