Diego Forlan believes Liverpool will be favourites to win when they take on Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
Liverpool are currently on a 13-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League having not lost since their 3-0 defeat to Man United in December.
Meanwhile, United have struggled during the same period, although they did register a fine 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
Looking ahead to Sunday, former United hero Forlan feels Liverpool are favourites for the clash due to their home advantage and good recent form.
Speaking about the match, Forlan said: “I’ll look forward to the game on Sunday, a huge match between fourth and fifth in the table.
“Both teams need to finish in the top four. Liverpool are playing better than United at the moment, they’re winning by fighting, they beat Manchester City with two great goals.
“They’re at home, too, so they’re favourites.
“United have Wayne Rooney, their key player, doing well, but they need more than quality to win there.
“You need effort and a little bit of luck, maybe a goalkeeper dropping a ball.”
Forlan is right in that Liverpool are favourites but as is the case in games like this, sometimes form is irrelevant.
That being said, United will need a game-winning performance from the team as a whole if they are to come away from Anfield with three points.
Forlan produced one himself when the two sides met in 2002. The Uruguayan famously scored a brace in a 2-1 victory, which is still fondly remembered by United fans to this day. Although Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria are having indifferent seasons at Old Trafford, fans will be hoping they can affect the game in the same way that Forlan did all those years ago.
