The FA have confirmed they are reviewing footage to assess whether Martin Skrtel deliberately stamped on David de Gea during yesterday’s match between Liverpool and Manchester United.
Steven Gerrard was sent off for a deliberate stamp on Ander Herrera but Skrtel’s stamp on De Gea went unpunished.
The FA are waiting to find out if Martin Atkinson saw the incident before they take it any further.
Due to their archaic rules, nothing can be done if Atkinson saw Skrtel stamp on De Gea during the match. However, they would be able to retrospectively punish the Slovakian if Atkinson didn’t see the incident during the game.
The question is not whether Skrtel stamped on De Gea but more if he did with intended malice. You can make your own mind up on that:
