Timothy Fosu-Mensah took a big step in his Manchester United career today by training with the first-team.
In the absence of a lot of players who are away on international duty, 17-year-old Fosu-Mensah was given an invaluable opportunity to train under the watchful of Louis van Gaal and his staff.
Fosu-Mensah joined from Ajax aged just 16 this summer and made quite an impression playing for the U18s after he was made to wait for international clearance in order to make his debut.
Since then he has played very well for the U18s on multiple occasions and although he is yet to make his U21s debut, van Gaal and his staff saw fit to promote him to the first-team.
Even if it is only for one day, it’s a testament to the progress he has made since joining in the summer.

We backed Fosu-Mensah to make his U21s debut before the end of the season but training with the first-team isn’t something we expected so soon and it would have been a pleasant surprise for Fosu-Mensah too.
With lots of first-team players away for another few days, there’s every chance Fosu-Mensah will be able to continue training with the likes of Ander Herrera and Juan Mata until the rest of the players return.
