Manchester United consider activating Arda Turan’s €30m release clause – report

Manchester United are considering activating Arda Turan’s €30m release clause in order to bring him to Old Trafford next summer.

Reports also say Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested in the Atletico Madrid midfielder, who was part of the team that reached the Champions League final last season.

The Turkey international is contracted to Atletico until 2017 and is a vital part of Diego Simeone’s side so it is unlikely that the Spanish club will let go of him easily.

Louis van Gaal is looking for a midfielder to bring balance to his team as he has often had to play Wayne Rooney in the middle of the park this term.

As well as Turan, United have been linked with the likes of Paul Pogba, Kevin Strootman and Nigel de Jong.

The club are crying out for a physical presence in midfield and van Gaal clearly knows that. It has been well documented that United have never replaced Roy Keane and Turan would go some way towards doing that.

However, Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick have impressed for United in recent weeks. Against Liverpool last weekend, in particular, the duo ran the show and dominated the middle third of the pitch.
