Pepe Reina: David de Gea should stay at Manchester United

Former Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina believes David de Gea should stay at Manchester United despite reported interest from Real Madrid.

After a difficult start to life in England, De Gea has gone on to become one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

The 24-year-old has been exceptional this season and is the main reason why Man United are still in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Reina, currently at Bayern Munich, maintains that De Gea should resist the temptation of Madrid and stay put at Old Trafford.

Speaking about De Gea, Reina said: ”He is one of the top ‘keepers in Europe and this year he has been superb. Maybe Real Madrid are looking for a ‘keeper and De Gea is one of the names suggested, but I think he should be happy enough to play for Man United.”

There has been endless speculation over the future of De Gea this season, which could have been put to an end at any point by the player himself simply stating he doesn’t want to leave.

Unfortunately for United fans, such a declaration hasn’t been forthcoming. This may be a negotiating tactic as De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes looks to secure his client a new deal. However, it may be that De Gea just wants to leave the club. Everyone associated with United will be hoping it is the former.
