Manchester United scouting Memphis Depay against Spain

Manchester United scouts will watch Memphis Depay in action tonight for the Netherlands as part of Louis van Gaal stepping up his interest in signing him, reports Mark Ogden from The Telegraph.

The Dutch winger has been linked with a move to Man United for a long time and has now been earmarked as somebody who can bring some new life to United’s attack.

At just 21, Depay’s record this season is astounding with 20 goals and three assists in 29 appearances over all competitions, so it will come as no surprise to see United are interested in bringing him to Old Trafford.

Van Gaal is well aware of Depay’s talents having coached him as Netherlands manager during the World Cup. Sending scouts to watch him would be more to do with finding out in detail how he has progressed since the summer in rather than anything else.

Depay really does fit the bill of an exciting United winger as he has got bags of pace to burn, an intelligent football brain and an eye for goal. He’s the type of player who defenders hate playing against.

As is always the case with players who enjoy such a storming season as Depay, there is interest from others as Paris St Germain will be sending scouts for tonight’s game also.

What plays into United’s hands is the van Gaal element as it could be a deciding in this case given his close relationship with Depay.
