Netherlands striker Robin van Persie has wished his teammates good luck ahead of their friendly against Spain this evening.

Van Persie is currently sidelined with an ankle injury he picked up in Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat against Swansea City in February.

Wesley Sneijder has taken up the captain’s armband for the Netherlands in the 31-year-old’s absence.

Van Persie passed on his best wishes to Guus Hiddink’s side and reminicised about the previous meeting between the two sides at the 2014 World Cup, which the Netherlands won 5-1:

During the memorable victory, van Persie scored an exquisite diving header which eventually won the FIFA Goal of the Year award.

Under the guidance of Louis van Gaal, the Netherlands were knocked out at the semi-final stage of the competition by Argentina. United fans will be hoping van Persie scores similarly spectacular goals when he returns to action before the end of the campaign.
