AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong has insisted he does not know where he will be playing his football next season amid rumoured interested from Manchester United.
The 30-year-old’s current deal at the San Siro runs out at the end of the season and it is looking increasingly likely he will leave the club in the summer.
The player himself admitted he doesn’t know exactly where his future lies. Speaking about the speculation, De Jong said: “I haven’t decided yet and I don’t know when I will make that decision.
“It could be at the end of April or at the end of the season. First of all I want to figure out what Milan’s plans are to get back to being the great club of the past.
“It’s still too early to say where I’ll be playing next term. It could be Milan, Ajax or another club. There are several options, as I will be a free agent.
“I’ll take a little time so that I can make the best decision.”
De Jong would be a cheap midfield option but it is not as if United do not have money to spend.
Regardless, he would certainly provide a physical presence in the middle of the park and De Jong’s disciplined performances at the World Cup showed he still has some qualities. United’s current midfield is a tad lightweight in that respect so De Jong would give van Gaal another dynamic should he join the club.
