Manchester United vs Aston Villa: Predicted starting XI and formation

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea – His inclusion doesn’t really need to be explained any more.

Antonio Valencia Louis van Gaal clearly likes Valencia at right-back. As much as Rafael will want to start, we can’t see it happening.

Phil Jones A run of games usually brings out the better version of Jones.

Marcos Rojo Chris Smalling is a doubt and it’s unlikely van Gaal will risk him.

Daley Blind – Luke Shaw has trained this week but Blind has been excellent at left-back. Why fix it if it isn’t broken?

Michael Carrick Flavour of the month midfielder for the rest of England but United fans have long been Carrick fans.

Ander Herrera – Part of a midfield trio which is causing all sorts of problems at the moment.

Juan Mata Will have to be taken down from cloud nine after the Liverpool game before he can start.

Marouane Fellaini Has now made himself indispensable to United. What a turnaround from the Belgian.

Ashley Young Di Maria could start ahead of him but there really is no point changing the formation and personnel unnecessarily when results are going well.

Wayne Rooney Will lead United’s line and hopefully put in a better performance than he did at Anfield.
