Borussia Dortmund ready for Mats Hummels offers

Borussia Dortmund have admitted they are likely to lose a major player during the summer transfer window but insisted Mats Hummels’ future still lay in their hands.

Reports are continuing to grow that Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Hummels and although chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke insisted there was currently no offer, he did say Dortmund’s board would consider it.

“In this moment this a total dummy discussion, because there is no offer,” Watzke explained.

“If one arrives, we will discuss it internally and make a decision. But this decision will only be taken by BVB.

“The situation at Dortmund is like this: We’ve lost one major player each year, but we don’t stop playing football. To be clear: Mats knows his contractual situation, he described it in that interview himself. The decision where Mats will play next season will only be taken by BVB.”

Updates and fresh quotes surrounding the future of Hummels now seem to be appearing in the press every 24 hours, which is indicative of his fragile situation with the German side who are clearly worried about losing him in the summer.

What is abundantly clear from all of this, regardless of current offers and situations, is that Hummels is available for the right price this summer, otherwise Dortmund would simply be quashing and dismissing all stories immediately. Instead, they are happy for them to bubble on.

If United can match Dortmund’s valuation, Hummels could move to Old Trafford but whether that happens remains to be seen.
