Fran Beckenbauer: Mats Hummels is the perfect age for England move

by Richard Laverty

Two months before the transfer window opens once again, links between Manchester United and Muts Hummels are once again hotting up.

In what was one of the most on-off saga’s of the summer, Hummels almost seemed to set to move to Old Trafford at some stage but the move never materialised, with Louis van Gaal instead opting for the impressive Marcos Rojo.

But with United struggling defensively at times throughout the season, the club will surely be keen to strengthen at the back once again this summer, and Hummels is once again appearing as a key target.

Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer knows all about being a top class German centre-back, and may well be stirring rumours to unsettle rivals Borussia Dortmund, by suggesting it could be time for Hummels to leave Germany.

“At 26, Hummels is at the best age to make the move to England,” he told Bild.

“I can understand his thinking well.”

Hummels himself hasn’t exactly been silent on his future but hasn’t ruled out a move away from the team that has uncharacteristically struggled in Bundesliga this season.

Whilst dismissing rumours he had ‘promised’ to join United if he ever left Dortmund, the World Cup winner is thinking about his future and it does appear he could leave the club this summer.
