Manchester United’s interest in signing Nicolas Otamendi is firm and the club are expected to try and sign him this summer, says Sky Sports’ Graham Hunter.
Spanish football expert Hunter doesn’t expect Valencia to be too interested in selling Otamendi but feels a big money offer like £50m would force the club into making a decision.
Within the last few weeks there have been reports which suggest United had already agreed a deal for Otamendi worth £36.9m but Hunter feels the need for Champions League football could be a hurdle for any potential exit.
“Manchester United’s interest in aquiring Otamendi is well established,” Hunter said.
“Therefore, I would expect them to try to buy him in the summer.
“If they come in with £50million then Valencia have a decision to make.
“It is better football sense for Valencia’s level to use the good players they have got to earn Champions League revenue.”
Signing at least one world class centre-back is no doubt seen as a priority by van Gaal and his staff this summer, so Otamendi is likely to be one of man whereby interest is well established.
While Valencia may not want to let one of their best players go in order to remain competitive the following season, money talks in football and every player has his price.
That being said, if Hunter is indeed correct, then Valencia aren’t going to make it easy for van Gaal to follow up his interest.
