Five games ago, Manchester United were holding onto fourth place and eight points behind Manchester City who were second.
Today, Man United are sitting pretty in third spot with City trailing behind in fourth. In the space of just five games, there has been a point swing of +8 for City to +1 for United.
With five wins on the bounce, United are rocking right now. The performance away at Anfield was as dominant performance as you’re ever likely to see from a United fan in the scousers back garden.
As for other recent performances which have all contributed to five wins in succession, they are assured and composed. In contrast, City looked disjointed when it mattered in the final third against Palace and were punished.
United above City and looking pretty for a top four spot is something fans have been wanting to see and now Louis van Gaal‘s side have worked themselves into such a strong position to attack from.
This is by no means insisting the result of the derby is a foregone conclusion but in psychological terms, United head into this game with real confidence and that can sometimes turn out to be the difference.
