Herrera had a difficult start to life at Old Trafford and was forced to watch on from the substitute’s bench during a particularly frustrating period over December and January.
Instead of Herrera, Wayne Rooney was played in midfield by Louis van Gaal in a move which baffled the majority of fans not only because the Spaniard was more naturally suited but due to the restrictions it placed on Rooney who was not comfortable in that role.
As it turned out, an injury to Robin van Persie meant Rooney was moved back up front which eventually allowed Herrera to flourish and he hasn’t looked back since.
With Xavi and Andres Iniesta approaching the twilight of their careers at Barcelona, Mundo Deportivo report the club have identified Herrera as a potential replacement when their transfer ban ends.
Barcelona can look at Herrera all they want but the last thing van Gaal will be doing any time soon is selling one of his best midfielders surely. If the Spanish side do want a midfielder, they can have Tom Cleverley.
