Marouane Fellaini: Manchester United have to win derby against Manchester City

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has urged his teammates to do everything they can to win this weekend’s clash against Manchester City.

Man United head into the game in fine form having won five of their last five games but in contrast have lost four consecutive derbies against Manchester City.

Meanwhile, City lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace on Monday night which all but ended their title hopes and leaves them one point behind third-placed United in the Premier League.

Going into Sunday, Fellaini believes a victory in the derby would set United up perfectly as they bid to finish in the top four.

Speaking about the derby, Fellaini said: ”It’s a massive game. It’s the derby, so it will be intense for the players and the supporters. We want to play in the Champions League next season so we have to win in front of our supporters. We have to do everything to win.

“In England every game is like a derby, because it’s physical. In the derby you have to be more aggressive and more tough if you want to win. Everything has to be within the rules, but the physical side in England is why it’s such a competitive league.”

Every game between now and the end of the season is important for United but a win against City on Sunday would deal a huge psychological blow to Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

United’s fine set of results, coupled with the form of players such as Fellaini, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata, has given fans a real confidence that they can inflict a heavy defeat on City. Of course, City won’t roll over easily and United will need to be on top form if they are to get a positive result.
