Manchester United prepared to pay £25m for Memphis Depay – report

Manchester United are prepared to pay £25m for PSV Eindhoven’s Memphis Depay which is more than what Liverpool are willing to offer, reports The Mirror.

The 21-year-old is one of Europe’s most in-form players this season having scored 19 goals in 26 Eredivisie appearances, which has attracted plenty of attention from clubs.

Man United have been heavily linked with Depay because of the Louis van Gaal connection and following comments from PSV’s technical director Marcel Brands where he admitted he was likely to leave this summer, in addition to PSV’s manager Phillip Cocu saying he expected Depay to go, everything is in place for him to leave the Dutch side.

At £25m, Depay would be a steal in what is a hyper inflated market thanks to the influx of foreign owners at clubs and as we’ve said on more than one occasion, he’s the perfect type of player to compliment van Gaal’s desire to use 4-3-3 as his permanent formation.

With there being no international football this summer, van Gaal will want to move swiftly in the market in order to have his squad together ahead of the pre-season tour in July, so there could be some early deals this year and Depay’s name is high on the likely list of new arrivals.
