Juan Mata amazed by ‘crazy’ Old Trafford atmosphere

Juan Mata believes Manchester United still have work to do to finish in the top four of the Premier League despite Sunday’s superb 4-2 victory over Manchester City.

Mata scored United’s crucial third goal during the win as United made a real statement to the rest of the league.

The result left Louis van Gaal’s side nine points clear of fifth-placed Southampton and four points clear of fourth-placed City.

Old Trafford was rocking and Mata admits the crazy atmosphere is something he’ll never forget. Speaking about the game, Mata said: ”In the first 10 or 15 minutes City were brilliant but after that we showed character and came back. It was a massive result and everyone from United is happy.

“The atmosphere was crazy, it’s something we will never forget. We have six games to go and have to keep going. It’s one more step towards the Champions League, it’s a big win and a boost to the confidence. But Arsenal are a great team and City and Liverpool will stay fighting until the end.”

Mata and United’s players may try to sensible about the subject but the result against City left it extremely difficult for fans not to get carried away.

Champions League football now looks a near certainty and the result was doubly satisfying as it came over the noisy neighbours. United now face Chelsea full of confidence and there is a real sense that they can beat the league leaders at Stamford Bridge.
