Manchester United send scouts to watch FC Porto take on Bayern Munich

Manchester United sent scouts to the Estadio do Dragao on Wednesday night to watch FC Porto beat Bayern Munich 3-1 in the Champions League quarter-finals.

As reported by Sport Witness, Manchester City, Chelsea, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur also had representatives at the game.

Louis van Gaal recently revealed he has been scouting potential recruits since January so it is no surprise to see United’s staff at the game. It is not immediately clear who exactly they had their eye on, although there are a number of potential candidates.

Bruno Martins Indi was linked to United last summer as he and Louis van Gaal worked together with the Dutch national team at the 2014 World Cup.

Then at Feyenoord, Martins Indi ended the speculation by eventually joining Porto. Perhaps van Gaal is keen on reviving his interest. Elsewhere, Jackson Martinez, who scored on the night, has garnered attention from the likes of United, Arsenal and Spurs in recent years.

As for Bayern Munich, Dante and Thomas Muller were heavily linked with United at various points last year but they both ended up signing new contracts at the Allianz Arena.

United may also have been keeping tabs on Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker was on United’s radar before he joined Bayern and he has previously spoke of how flattered he was to be linked with a move to the Premier League.
