Luke Shaw impresses on Manchester United return

Luke Shaw was Manchester United’s stand-out player in today’s game against Chelsea.

Despite the loss, the 19-year-old can walk away from the game with his head held high because up against very tough opposition after so long out of the team, he was extremely impressive.

His link-up play with Ashley Young on the left flank was excellent and his pace gave Branislav Ivanovic all sorts of problems.

Shaw was by far and away United’s best player on the day and after a week where he was in the press after reports suggested he was mentally struggling since his move, his performance was the perfect response.

Much has been said about Shaw since he became one of the most expensive teenagers ever in football when he joined United in the summer.

So far he hasn’t been able to put in the sort of performances he showed week-in-week-out for Southampton but today was a real glimpse into what he is all about.

Shaw’s pace was electric and his decision making was spot on as well. If every other United player did as well as him, then the game wouldn’t have finished 1-0 today to Chelsea.

With Daley Blind injured, Shaw was given a chance to prove himself to Louis van Gaal and he did precisely that, so he should be delighted with himself.
