Newcastle want to sign James Wilson on loan – report

Manchester United striker James Wilson could be set for a loan move to struggling Newcastle United next season, according to reports.

Wilson began his first team career at Old Trafford almost a year ago, when Ryan Giggs handed him a debut against Hull City, the young striker repaying Giggs with two goals.

At just 19, the striker is one of the hottest talents on the books at United, adding a further Premier League goal against QPR in January, as well as a strike in the FA Cup against Cambridge.

But United and Louis van Gaal reverting to a 4-3-3 system has hindered Wilson’s chances in the first team. With Wayne Rooney up front, Wilson has had to make do with a spot on the bench at best, whilst injuries have also hampered his progress.

At the start of the season, Will Keane was preferred on the pre-season tour but good form for the U21 side meant it became impossible for Van Gaal to continue ignoring the striker.

But with a lack of first team games, a loan move away next season seems likely and Newcastle would be ideal given their lack of options up front.

Papiss Cisse will soon return from the ban he received for spitting at United’s Jonny Evans, but beyond that, John Carver’s side have little alternatives and Wilson would be hard pushed to find a better move for next season.
