PSV director Marcel Brands has confirmed Manchester United have made an initial approach over the signing of Memphis Depay.

The 21-year-old Dutch winger has been heavily linked with a move to Man United ever since Louis van Gaal took over as manager back in the summer and his strong performances at the World Cup helped speculation intensify.

On more than one occasion PSV have admitted Depay is likely to leave and United are favourites to sign him.

“There is serious interest [in Depay] from big clubs,” Brands told Dutch TV channel Fox Sports.

“We’ve had a phone call [from Manchester United] but there were no talks yet.

“If it comes to a deal, he must make the choice. Then it’s up to us to come out with such a club.”

At the start of they year Depay insisted he wanted to remain at PSV until he had won the Eredivisie title and the Dutch side were crowned champions yesterday, so everything is falling into place for his move to Old Trafford in the summer.
