Chris Smalling is delighted to have signed a new four-year deal with Manchester United.
The 25-year-old put pen to paper on his new contract after what has been an impressive season of progress under Louis van Gaal.
After his red card against Manchester City his chances were written off by a lot of fans but since then he has been improving with almost every performance and showed enough promise to van Gaal to warrant a new deal.
Looking forward to the future, Smalling said he was very proud and excited about what lies ahead for him.
“I’m delighted to sign my new contract,” he said.
“I am so proud to play for such a great club. We have developed as a team over the course of the season under Louis van Gaal and we are now playing as a complete unit.
“This is a very exciting time to be at Manchester United, we are all determined to get back to where we belong and competing at the highest level.”

Out of all the defenders who were at the club prior to van Gaal’s arrival, Smalling has progressed the most.
Few would have expected that to be the case after his red card against Man City but it is a testament to his maturity he was able to overcome that adversity and earn his new contract.
