Manchester United ask Jorge Mendes to enquire about Joao Cancelo – report

Manchester United have asked super-agent Jorge Mendes to enquire about the availability of Benfica right-back Joao Cancelo, according to Deporte Valenciano.

Cancelo is currently on loan at Valencia and although he has only played a handful of games at right-back this season is now being linked with bigger clubs in Europe.

Man United are said to be convinced of the player’s quality and have asked Mendes, his representative, to see if a move can be put together.

Mendes has ties with United as he represents players such as David de Gea, Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao.

However, Valencia have first refusal on Cancelo and would be able to sign him for €15m if they decide to keep him beyond the summer.

With Rafael seemingly on his way out of the club, United are on the lookout for talent that can fill their right flank.

Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne seems to be the most likely arrival at Old Trafford, although Barcelona’s Dani Alves has also been linked to United as he will be a free agent at the end of the season.
