Paul Simpson hails Jesse Lingard contribution at Derby County

by Ben Topliss

Derby County assistant manager Paul Simpson believes Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard deserves more praise for his contribution at Pride Park.

Lingard joined Derby at the end of the winter transfer window and has gone on to make 13 appearances for the Rams.

However, Darren Bent and Tom Ince have stolen the headlines from the youngster following some impressive performances.

Simpson has been delighted with Lingard and believes the 22-year-old is deserving of as much praise as Bent and Ince.

Speaking about Lingard, Simpson said: ”Darren Bent and Tom Ince have grabbed the headlines and made a big contribution so far, but Jesse Lingard is starting to come more and more into the fore.

“His performances have been good and he has got a few goals as well. You have to use the loan system well – there’s a chance it could go soon – so while it is here it is important to make the most of it.”

Lingard, who signed a new contract at Man United before leaving for Derby, has also received praise from Louis van Gaal this season.

The Dutchman clearly rates Lingard having started him in his first competitive game in charge of United against Swansea City. Unfortunately, he picked up an injury in that match which curtailed his progress but he will undoubtedly make an impact when he comes back to Old Trafford next term.
