Manchester United willing to loan Januzaj to PSV as part of Memphis Depay deal – report

Swap deals are a rarity in modern football. Cash is the commodity which trades hands on the transfer market nowadays but every so often an opportunity arises which could see players go in both directions that makes perfect sense. This is one such occasion for Manchester United.

Memphis Depay is wanted by Man United and talks have now been opened with the Dutch winger which is fantastic news and equally as encouraging are reports that Louis van Gaal is willing to let Adnan Januzaj join PSV on loan as part of the deal.

In every conceivable way, it’s a double transfer which makes so much sense for all parties involved. PSV have already conceded Depay is leaving so his exit is an inevitability and they will have a big gap to fill, something Januzaj would surely be delighted to attempt.

Sometimes loan spells can be fruitless exercises for players (such as Angelo Henriquez at Wigan Athletic last year) but Januzaj would join PSV and come under immediate pressure to perform to fill the void Depay left behind, pressure that he won’t be under enough at Man United. At 20, he needs that sort of regular playing time and he’d also be delighted to play in Holland given his roots back in Belgium.

As for Depay joining United, he ticks all the boxes. Direct, agile, fast and with a great goal-scoring ability, he’s everything van Gaal could want in a winger to use in his favoured 4-3-3 formation, and he’s only 21.

PSV know they are going to lose Depay and have the tough task of replacing him but in Januzaj they could bring in one of Europe’s top young talents who has all the potential of Depay but not enough game time to let it blossom, something he could get at the Dutch champions.
