Manchester United midfielder Ashley Young has “absolutely” confirmed that a bird did not poo in his mouth earlier in the season against Swansea City.
Cameras picked up the unfortunate incident during the 2-1 defeat to Swansea at Old Trafford at the start of the campaign.
Young became the butt of jokes as a result and his teammates eventually pranked him by hanging a fake bird over his place in the dressing room.
However, the player himself insisted the incident didn’t actually happen and that it was simply a case of an unfortunate TV angle.
Speaking about the jokes, Young said: “There was a bird above my locker. Not a real one. I think one of the lads must have gone to a garden centre and bought a fake pigeon.
“I can, 100%, absolutely confirm it was not bird poo. But I’d love to know who put that video out and how they did it. Or what my reaction might have been if it actually was.”
It was an embarrassing episode but Young has had the last laugh after completely turning around his form this term.
The 29-year-old is arguably one of United’s most important players having played a pivotal role in the 4-2 win against Manchester City earlier this month. It appears that the ‘poo’ has been Young’s lucky charm.
