Ashley Young: Manchester United will challenge for the Premier League next season

Ashley Young believes Manchester United will “definitely” be challenging for the Premier League title next season under the guidance of Louis van Gaal.

Man United struggled to find their best form in the first half of the campaign but things seemed to have finally clicked in recent weeks.

Prior to an unlucky 1-0 defeat against Chelsea last weekend, United went on a six-game winning streak to put them in an excellent position of qualifying for the Champions League.

Young praised van Gaal’s winning mentality and revealed he is confident of winning the title next season.

Speaking about van Gaal, Young said: “You don’t manage the teams he has managed without having that big, bold personality. He wants to be successful.

“He wants every detail spot on. As players, you want to be challenged and that’s exactly what he does: he challenges us every single day. It was always going to take time, but it is all starting to come together.

“If you look at the last run of games, even last week against Chelsea when on another day we would have scored two or three goals, we will definitely be back challenging for the title next season.”

United looked to be in tatters following the disastrous reign of David Moyes but van Gaal has undoubtedly steadied the ship.

Players such as Young, Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata all have the Dutchman to thank for some remarkable upturns in form while van Gaal has also masterminded memorable wins over the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

He is taking the club back to where it belongs and with a few new signings there is no reason why United can’t make next season a memorable one.
